How has your week been? Mine has been blah blah as I have been ill all week with flu or a bug. Not sure which. So Complete rest is what am prescribing for myself without any classes, personal training clients and work.
But I couldn’t resist writing to you about this topic today which we were talking about in the Phat2slim club as I feel it is what most of us need to learn about.
So NSVs ( No Scale victories) . What are NSVs? Simply put, NSVs are Little or big achievements other than the obvious number related achievements on the scale. The scale is the most used instrument in deciding weight loss. Even I use it with my clients. But I have learnt not to only rely on the scale to celebrate my clients.
Simple things like
- An increase in your fitness level. ie. been able to workout for longer
- You are able to fasten up the last button of your shirt.
- Your work pants / jeans are loose.
- You have stayed away from all forms of added sugar for a whole week.
- You are finally able to fission some pre baby cloths.
- Being more energetic
- You have taken up a new sport.
- You feel more confident in yourself.
- You are able to eat some healthy meals you never thought you could.
If you are in one or more of the above leagues , celebrate these milestones and stop concentrating on the numbers on the scale. The scale reads nothing but a number and can fluctuate based on different things going on in your body at anytime. So instead of wondering what you are doing wrong, celebrate your progress and keep your gaze fixed on these progress because they will form the foundation of the new habits you need for your new lifestyle. And in the end, weight loss will be a by product.
If at anytime you have given up because the scale has not been favourable to you, get back on track NOW and start to focus on your progress rather than the scale .
If however you cannot relate to any of the above examples, because you have just started on your weight loss journey. Celebrate the fact that you have started at all. It takes a lot of mental and physical energy to make that resolve . So don’t give up because you are still lapping the couch potatoes.
