It’s officially the end of the first month of the year 2015. Already? I know!!!!
So how are you doing with your new year resolutions?
I work in a gym as a personal trainer and in January alone, we had over 2000 new members. sign up at the gym. That is some big number. My bosses are happy of course but I can tell you for free that half of these 2000 new members have already abandoned their new founded zeal to lose weight. You know why?
Their idea of weight loss is boring and monotonous. They come to the gym, in their first month and do the same thing over and over again. Then it becomes a chore because there is nothing to look forward too.
You will arrive at this boring and monotonous road easily if you don’t have a progressive plan.
A progressive plan includes your next step of action when you hit the first wall or ways you’ll change your routine to make it more challenging and fun making it something to look forward to or conquering. For instance, every month I set myself a new personal record and I won’t rest until I reach it. This keeps me going all the time. It usually gives me a reason to get out of bed in the cold mornings.
Running the same distance every day is quite monotonous. You can’t wear the same cloths everyday or eat the same foods every day without getting bored. Exercising is no different. Challenge yourself, go further, invite your friends to the gym (Serious minded friends!!) I have seen way too many chatting at the gym for any serious workout to be done. Change your exercise routine every 4-6 weeks. If you are the type that gets bored easily, Include aerobic classes, dance classes, boot camps etc in your weekly routine.
These are great ways of having fun and getting fit at the same time.Another way to increase your motivation is to set your long term goals then work your way backwards. Talking about goals, you might want to focus on something other than weight loss. When I set goals for my clients, they usually aren’t weight loss oriented. I set goals to include strength, power, beating old records etc. When I get them to focus on these things, weight loss is already in the bag.
Now get a pen and re strategise. Whatever you don’t remain the same. You will easily give up if you do.
